You may register for the Chorale, Chamber Choir, or Glee Club either as a club or a class (the difference is detailed below). The Women's Choir is only available as a club at the moment. To join a group as a club, all you have to do is show up at a rehearsal during the first few weeks of school. To join as a class, you must register for one of the groups on OSCAR.
Regardless of whether to join as a class or a club, you must pay dues. These dues typically run around $35 but may change depending on the activities planned for each semester.
New men joining Chorale or Chamber Choir will have their dues waived as they are expected to furnish their own tuxedo. Assistance is offered in the acquiring of tuxedos.
Joining a choral group as a club provides you with more flexibility. You may join after the first week of school, and if you decide to drop out in the middle of the semester there is no penalty.
Joining a choral group as a class will earn you one credit hour as a free elective. Your grade is determined strictly on attendence- showing up for all practices and all of the required performances will earn you an A. Furthermore, if you take one group as a class for four semesters, you can earn four hours of humanities credits instead of free elective credits. This policy is outlined on the registrar's website here.
To join as a class, you must sign up during phase one or phase two registration.
A common conflict is between the Glee Club and Chorale and Physics 1 and 2 test times. Signing up for Physics 1 or 2 will schedule a test time for you during Monday or Tuesday evening, preventing you from registering. Ask for an override request in this case, as they are usually granted, and Dr. Ulrich has no problem with this particular conflict.
