This semester starts out with our annual Vasilopita event. On Wednesday, January 16 at 6 pm, HS will having a dinner and Vasilopita cutting in the executive classroom in the ISYE main buliding. At this time we will also be electing a new social chair for the board, so if you would like to run, please e-mail me. Since we are catering in food, I would like to ask you to please RSVP to either via e-mail or the soon to be added facebook group so that we can estimate how much food to order.

HAS Pascha Celebration

The Hellenic Academic Society (HAS) of Atlanta will organize its annual Pasha (Easter) celebration on Sunday, April 8th at 14:00 at the American Legion Post #140 at Chastain Park (3905 Powers Ferry Road NW, Atlanta GA 30342). Come and meet friends in a traditional Greek glenti in a cozy and comfortable place!
The price is $15 for Students, $20 for HAS members and $25 for non-members while there is no admission for children under 6 years old (Cash or checks to HAS Atlanta only please). The menu includes soft drinks, beer and wine, lamb, roasted chicken and potatoes, Greek salad, green beans, dyed eggs, tzatziki, spanakopita, tyropita, as well as tsourekia and other desserts.

BuzzGammon

HS along with the Iranian Student Association and the Turkish Student Organization is co-sponsoring the 4th BuzzGammon backgammon tournament. This year BuzzGammon will take place on April 12th at Student Center Commons Piedmont Room at 19:00. We need good players this year as each student organization has won one tournament each.
Persian Night

The Hellenic Academic Society (HAS) was established in 1991 as a
professional society devoted to the promotion of Hellenism and its
culture in Atlanta and the State of Georgia. Goals of the society include:
- The organization of social and cultural events providing the opportunity
to learn, examine and enjoy cultural and educational subjects related to
the ancient and modern Hellenic and western civilizations;
- The enhancement of the interaction of Atlanta's Hellenic community
with other organizations and elected officials in the city, state, and
nationwide in order to promote issues of importance to Hellenism.

Annual Sudent Membership: $15

CultureTech with Greek Dancing by "Troupe Hellas"

CultureTech will take place and the Greek traditional dance team "Troupe Hellas" will be there with Pontos dances. Note that "Troupe Hellas" very recently won a major distinction among 2000 groups at a national level
HS Regular Assembly
Thursday, March 8th - 7pm - ISyE Executive Classroom in ISYE Main
HS Regular Assembly will take place on Thursday, March 8th at 19:00 at ISyE executive classroom, ISyE (or Milton Stewart) building (htttp://gtalumni.org/campusmap/bldngmodel.php?id=57&navview=0). The building is opposite to the CRC and adjacent to the bus and trolley stop.
The agenda for this assembly consists of the official proclamation of Mihalis Apostolou as acting treasurer for Spring 2007 semester and a discussion about certain constitution amendments HS has been asked by GT to carry out. Note that only the discussion about the amendments will take place in order for the HS members to be aware of the amendments and to express their views, while the actual voting will be done in a second assembly whose date will be announced later. Please try to attend both assemblies as this is an issue impacting our society.
Food Fair

Greek basketball team
The legendary "Ipersintelikos" team is assembled again and your
participation is needed, so if you are thinking to join, step forward to an
excellent opportunity to meet other Greeks, to demonstrate your skills and
to get some of the outstanding GT basketball spirit. Registration period is
approaching fast (January 17th & 18th), so reply now to this address if you

"Secrets of Greece" film at Fernbank museum
The Fernbank museum of natural history
has a great film about Greece. The goal is to be at the museum this Friday
at 17:00. Note that we are trying to set up a carpool for this event, so
whether you need a ride or you can provide one, please reply to

First Meeting of Fall 2006 - View the Minutes
The first Hellenic Society meeting of Fall semester will be held Thursday,
September 14, 6pm, in the ISyE Executive Classroom. The EC is located across the
entrance pictured at http://gtalumni.org/campusmap/bldngmodel.php?id=57.
After an overview of the past year, elections for the Executive Board and a vote
of confidence in the advisor will be held, according to the revised constitution
posted at www.cyberbuzz.gatech.edu/hellas. An open discussion of the present &
future of the organization will follow.

Last Meeting of the Semester - View the Minutes
The Hellenic Society will hold its last meeting of spring semester on Wednesday,
April 26, at 6pm, in the ISyE Executive Classroom, located directly across as
you enter building 57 of the ISyE complex. The meeting will be followed by our
monthly dinner at Ray's, at Tech square, at around 7pm.
THE MAIN TOPIC OF THE MEETING IS TO DISCUSS AND VOTE UPON CORRECTIONS AND
AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION AND WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOUR ATTENDANCE. More
specifically we A) need to correct the semester elections take place, listed as
spring, to fall; B) integrate the list policy so it can be formally upheld; C)
include a section regarding the academic advisor required by Georgia Tech
policy; D) formalize the position of Social Chair, which has greatly benefited
the Society, but is currently not official.
We will also have an overview of our activities this semester and an open
discussion about the Society and its current and future status.
HS Dinner at Ray's
The second monthly HS Dinner will take place Thursday, March 30, 7 pm, at Ray's
Mediterranean and New York Pizza located at Tech Square. The atmosphere of the
first dinner was vibrant, so we look forward to Thursday.
Third Annual Buzzgammon Tournament
Organized by Hellenic Society, Iranian Student Association, and Turkish Student Organization.

Culture Fest Food Fair - Monday, March 6 at 11:30am - 1:00pm on Skiles
walkway - Several organizations are cooking their national dishes, including
the Hellenic Society, which is preparing htipiti, spetsofai and plaki. For
only $5 a good price for good food and an insight into other cultures.
Culture Fest Performance Night - Thursday, March 9 at 7:00pm - 9:00pm - Our very own Erasis Techne will be performing Thursday, as well as many
other groups representing various cultures from around the world. The event
is free of charge, and will be held at the Robert Ferst Center for the Arts.
First Spring Meeting Hellenic Society would like to welcome everyone back from winter break.
