About Yuri's Night
Yuri’s Night is a gathering of people with diverse backgrounds that connects, educates, and motivates people of all cultures and backgrounds around a common inspiration—the future of space exploration. These global events are a showcase for elements of culture that embrace space including dance, music, fashion, and art.
Yuri's Night celebrates two pivotal events in spaceflight: Yuri Gagarin's first manned spaceflight on April 12, 1961, and the first flight of the Space Shuttle system on April 12, 1981. Gagarin was aboard Vostok 1 for a 1h 58' flight into space, completing one orbit. Commander John Young (Georgia Tech AE '52) and Pilot Robert Crippen flew the orbiter Columbia on a 54h 30' mission completing thirty-six orbits twenty years later to the day.
Location
The Yuri's Night Atlanta celebration will be held at Under the Couch on Georgia Tech's West Campus. Directions can be found at Under the Couch's directions page.
