How to donate money or equipment to WREK

All gifts to WREK are tax deductible.

Donating money to WREK

  • Write a quick cover letter (handwritten is fine) indicating that you want your donation to go to WREK. You have the option of designating how your gift will be used, for example:
    • New microphone boom arms
    • Trip for 4 students to Las Vegas for the next NAB
    • Replacement gerbils
A 'wishlist' of items is included at the bottom of this page, although it may be outdated. Of course most people make their gifts unrestricted and let station management use the funds where they are most needed.
  • Make check payable to The Georgia Tech Foundation.
  • You get a recognition letter for "Special Gift Credit" acknowledging the tax deductible contribution.
  • Mail checks to:
        Christine Q. Betts
        Director of Development
        Georgia Tech Office of Development
        177 North Avenue
        Atlanta, GA 30332-0220
If you have any questions, please contact Chris Betts at the Alumni Association at (404) 894-8826, or email her at chris.betts@dev.gatech.edu .

Donating equipment to WREK

You may also make a gift of equipment to WREK.

Alumni have given used and new equipment to the station personally or through their employer. Equipment gifts will be acknowledged by the Institute and are fully tax deductible. Art Nacht, WREK General Manager 1973-1975, coordinates gifts of equipment to WREK. Please contact Art at 770-971-3717 or anacht@bellsouth.net .

The WREK Wishlist as of 10-Dec-2000

Warning: this list may be outdated! Send an email to alumni@wrek.org before designating a donation, so we can check to see whether that item is still needed, or whether there is now a more pressing need.

Voice/DTMF telemetry interface
Burk Technology ARC16SA package. Cost: $5,639.
This is a voice/DTMF interface telemetry unit, and would allow us to legally do unattended operation, as it has a computer hookup for logging power levels, can page the relevant numbers in the event of a transmitter problem.
This package includes:
  • ARC16SA unit @ $2,995
  • Interface Panel @ $495 x 2= $990
  • Dial Line Transient Suppressor @ $159
  • Software @ $1,495

This item was included in the proposed 2001-2002 SGA budget, but will likely be cut with $2.7 million in requested budget funds and $2.2 million available.

Microphone stands
New air studio microphone stands that don't squeak like mad.
Candidate: AMETRICS 51900 - "37" heavy-duty mic boom with 12" riser." $160/ea. at www.bsw-usa.com.
Pro telephone hybrid
Gentner Telehybrid - $749 at www.bsw-usa.com.
Connects between telephone base and handset with a pressure pad that you lay the telephone on to activate "tapping" of the line. Balanced XLR input/output.
AudioVault breakout cables
Some AV100 breakout cables (BE part 944-0051, cost $90 each) for AudioVault. We can do without them, but then we have to hand-craft our own and that's messy and time-consuming. We need two more.
Tower light controller
A new tower light controller. We have no idea how much these cost -- probably less than $1000.
Portable tape recorder
New Marantz PMD222 portable mono cassette tape recorder. List price at Marantz site (http://www.superscope-marantzpro.com/Marantz/portables.htm) is $519, although I imagine it is available for less from another source (http://www.techgodaudio.com/marantz.htm lists it at $439).
