WREK Programming for Saturday

WREKAGE (Midnight - 6 am)

We kick ass every Friday night to start off your week-long party with enough Death Metal, Black Metal, Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal, Progressive Metal, Noise and brutality give you a headache until Monday morning. We play bands all over the spectrum like Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Children of Bodom, Opeth, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Suffocation and even a load of Slayer when we really can't think of anything to do. We try to take care of the locals too, hopefully you know who they are, and to mention show annoucements to keep you posted on what you want to see. Enough said.

Check out the WREKAGE Website.

The DeSoto Hour (7 - 9pm)

A nationally acclaimed Big Band Jazz Show with your host, Fred Runde III. This show even got WREK on the national news. The Kings of Swing, the Barons of BeBop. This might be the best show on radio anywhere.

This show was hosted for many years by Fred's father, Fred Runde Jr, who passed away on February 13th, 2004.

  • An article in the Marietta newspaper
  • Read about Fred in the interview that we published in WREKology in 1999

  • A major news network did a little three-minute piece on WREK and Fred's show many years ago. We have it available here for download in MOV and AVI formats (12 Megs), and also in MPEG format (8.6 Megs).

The Saturday Night Cocktail Lounge (9 - 10 pm)

The Saturday Night Cocktail Lounge plays the best in sweet band, schmaltz, and lollipop music from a bygone era. With artists like Guy Lombardo and Lawrence Welk, reminisce back to the days of champagne and musical novelties of the Great Band Era.

EDM Sound System (10 - Midnight)

The show focuses specifically on dance forms of electronica (Trance, Drum'n'Bass, House, and Techno). All of these subgenres contain a very structured rhythm. The music almost always has a "four on the floor" beat which is extremely danceable. Every show focuses on one of the genres. EDM Sound System hosts live DJ sets each week. Between sets, performers are interviewed.
