Atlanta was the center of the Civil rights movement. Having lived in Atlanta without visiting the Martin Luther Ling National Historic Site and particularly the museum is a sin.
It is worth to visit the museum at the Carter Presidential Library. It has a replica of the oval office and interesting background information of the main political events of the Carter era.
Do not go to Stone Mountain in the summer months. Because of the extreme humidity the view is very limited.
In the summer months, Piedmont Park is the place to be: Visit the (free) Jazz Festival, Screen on the Green (4 outdoor movie shows) and the Atlanta Pride Parade (Atlanta has one of the biggest gay communities in the U.S.)
