                               Frequently Asked Questions

1. What soccer experience is required?

We don't require any specific soccer experience; however, all the players on the team played at least at the varsity level in high school and most played on a competitive club/select team as well.

2. Are there any tryouts for the team?

Yes, we hold tryouts at the beginning of each Fall Semester, usually the 2nd week of school. In the past, we have had a range of 30 to 40 players tryout for the team, and we usually try to cut it down to 25 dedicated players. If you miss tryouts or didn't make the team for the Fall, we hold an open season in the Spring, where everyone that comes to practice is on the team. The Spring season usually doesn't start until February.

3. Who do we play?

We generally play other college/university club teams. Occasionally we play a Junior Varsity team. Most Colleges and Universities have a Varsity team and a Club team (unlike Georgia Tech that has just the Club Team). We usually play teams within the Southeast region, some of which include: University of Florida, University of Georgia, University of Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Auburn, Florida State Univ., College of Charleston, James Madison, Valdosta State, etc.

4. How much is it going to cost and what do I need to buy?

Dues vary with each semester. They range from $70-$100 for the Fall and $20-$50 for the Spring. Dues help pay for travel expenses and some equipment. Equipment that you are required to have before you start playing include: cleats and/or turfs, and shin guards. We provide uniforms (jerseys, shorts and a pair of socks), soccer balls, and some first aid.

5. What if school work gets in the way of soccer?

This club is run by students just like you, so we understand the demands of Georgia Tech. In the Fall, we require you to make at least 2 of the 3 practices a week. If this is a problem, come talk to us about your situation during tryouts. As far as game commitment, we would like you to try and make as many games as possible, but in the event that you cannot make one, just let us know well in advance.

6. Do we have a coach?

Yes, at the moment we have a steady fall coach and usually find someone to help coach in the spring.

7. How do we get to our away games?

Usually we travel by personal vehicles. Players volunteer to drive and gas money gets reimbursed to the drivers.

8. What are the goals of this Soccer Club?

In the Fall, NIRSA holds both Regional and National Tournaments for all the college club soccer teams. Within a region, the top record team and the champion of the Regional Tournament both get bids into the National Tournament. We usually compete in the Regional Tournament and try to get a bid into Nationals. Teams that don't get a bid into Nationals can pay their way into the Open Division. We have paid our way into the Nationals Open Division before, and will continue to do so, if we think the team is ready for that level of competition and depending on location. We expect to finish with a winning record and always want to finish in the top 10 in our region. We hope to continue to improve, and be a top 5 team.

9. Who do I contact for further questions?

You can email the president of the club at GTWomensSoccer@gmail.com or any of the other officers on the contact page.
